Hi guys,
I tried the experiment with 3 cups (1 box) cornstarch, 1 1/2 cups water, and 15 drops of food coloring. It was sort of a weird consistency and hard to mix with a spoon... I'm not sure how it's supposed to be. It was sort of gooey/liquidy in the bowl, but when I picked it up it hardened and was a little powdery... I'm not sure if that's how it should be?? Help? lol
-Gabriella
Hey guys so I just did the experiment by the directions...epic fail... it was completely liquid we definitely need to use the entire box, since we want the students measuring we need to write the measurement instead of the entire box which is about 3 cups, to the1 1/2 c of water to make the slime. Could you imagine if we did in front of the class and this happened ..yikes...lol Gabby, I grabbed non latex gloves just to take the pics of my son doing the project, so if you didn't get them yet don't :), if you did no biggie i can use them for work...I picked up 6 large bowls and some wooden spoons since the consistency of the slime is too thick for the popsicle sticks, they kept breaking on us. I figure all that would need to be edited in the steps were the plastic cup would need to be changed to large bowl and the popsicle sticks changed to large wooden spoons also 15 drops of food coloring not 5 : ).. Hopefully this will all work out. I did not get a chance to perform the experiment with the correct measurements maybe if someone can do that to make sure that slime actually happens that would be cool. I am leaving for Florida so if you need me for anything just text or call sorry to be so neurotic but I just know I won't have time when I get back...I have all the supplies we need though on the plus side. Enjoy your Spring break and see you guys tuesday.

Hi Amber,
I think you're right, that might be too much for a plastic cup. Something bigger would probably work better. I like the station idea as well, sounds good. I think we put in the lesson plan to put the students in groups of 4 (because we put that there were 28), but we could change it if you want? When we do the experiment in class though, I'm not sure how many students there are. What are we doing about the supplies and measuring cups for the class? Let me know what I can get or bring.
-Gabriella :)
ok great groups of 4 works perfect I have measuring cups in my class at work so that is covered. I also have popsicle sticks there as well. :) I've picked up the cornstarch and food coloring and have the ziplock bowls. If you want to maybe pick up latex free gloves that would be great I guess size lg i dunno I am just thinking the guys in the class?? I will make up a power point too . I am thinking maybe meet after our practicum when we get back from spring break that way we can just review it all as it is put together. Are you guys ok with that? That way we know how it all fits together.
Thanks :)
Sure, I'll bring the latex free gloves. Yes, I think we should meet after practicum next Tuesday, that's fine with me. :)

Hey Mike I just noticed something on the direction handout. In step 3 it says first and step 4 second , and so on...I am thinking that we can take out the number directives and in step6 the word next, because it may leave room for confusion if the number word differs from the number step.. What do you think? Also can we change the directions to say clear bowl instead of cup?
I am translating to Spanish and adding that to our poster:)
Amber ^ there is the lesson plan and directions and a handout we are giving the students. I have to edit one thing in the lesson plan but other than that we are good......oh I forgot we should use plastic cups for mixing and I'll bring in a bowl for us to use on the 15th okay. I'll text you. keep in touch if you can.
thanks Mike and Gabriella :)
Awesome everything looks great I will try to post a pic of the poster with steps
also I tried to add my last name into the LP ( Lynn), but could not...everything looks good.
Also do the power point slides still need to be completed if so I can bang them out tomorrow.
I also thought of this: will 1 c of water and 1 c of cornstarch be too much for the plastic cup? I was thinking those ziplock to go square bowls might work better i'm not sure what do you guys think?
Also I think we should have 2 " stations" that representatives from each group can go and retrieve the materials.
Station 1 would be the sink with a measuring cup
Station 2 would be the large bowl of cornstarch...that way the same measuring cup isn't used and materials can be retrieved quicker.
Are we grouping the students in 5 groups of 4?
What's your guys opinions?
:)
Thanks
-Amber
Steps to make slime:I am going to reword and tweek this so it is not verbatim to what the website says.
I also think that at each step we need to stop and ask the" class" what do you think we are making?........
What do you think will happen when......
How would you classify this?...e.g-> solid , liquid, gas
This is using predicting and inferring
After they make the slime we can have them ....write down their observations using the senses
Website:( as a resource in our lesson plan) this is a 100% non toxic lesson plan
Materials
Cornstarch, water , food coloring, bowl, ....I am going to add non latex gloves and sandwich bags as well... I will purchase this weekend this is not a large expense at all. :) and do not mind any preferences to colors? let me know
